Psalm 4:7 You have put more joy and rejoicing in my heart than [they know] when their wheat and new wine have yielded abundantly.

I believe in your life time you have heard the statement which says “Keep the main thing the main thing”.

In other words we can say “People inquire for joy and the good living, not for the chief joy”.

The joy of salvation in Christ exceeds any form of joy one can experience after some great gain.

Though David was in distress, vexed by ungodly men all around he could still have gladness in his heart, because the LORD put it there

This joy is a fruit of the Spirit for the believer

Galatians 5:22 But the fruit of the [Holy] Spirit [the work which His presence within accomplishes] is love, joy (gladness), peace, patience (an even temper, forbearance), kindness, goodness (benevolence), faithfulness

This joy is the internal, eternal delight in God in-spite of the circumstances.

You can be living in an economy which is unpredictable where things are always changing and it even makes it difficult to plan but you stay joyful knowing that the face of God shines favourable on us.

So we do not only smile when the outcome is good for us, money is coming in and everything is prosperous. We can be happy even in distressing times because the LORD put gladness in our hearts as believers.

Psalm 16:11 You will show me the path of life; in Your presence is fullness of joy, at Your right hand there are pleasures forevermore. [Acts 2:25-28, 31.]

Psalm 9:2 I will rejoice in You and be in high spirits; I will sing praise to Your name, O Most High!

Because of the joy we have received from Him, we are always in high spirits singing praise to our Lord and King in Church and in the streets because he has put joy and rejoicing in our hearts.

Outward comforts can no more fill the heart than a triangle can fill a circle. Spiritual joys are satisfying ( Psalms 63:5 )

Christ in the heart is better than corn in the barn, or wine in the vat. Corn and wine are but fruits of the world, but the light of God’s countenance is the ripe fruit of heaven.
