We all want to see our cities and communities prospering in our nations but isn’t it ironical that city or community authorities are always fighting establishment of churches which in essence brings stability to communities and cities. What then crosses some people’s minds is that there are many churches which are promoting false practices springing out. However, today lets focus on the church built upon the foundation of the Word of God and on the Lordship of Jesus Christ.
Foundation of the church
(Mat 16:15-18) He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.
The church is founded on the confession of the Lord Jesus Christ. The church was not built on Peter but on the confession of the Lordship of Jesus Christ. Other schools of thought which I prescribe to would say, the church is built upon revelation knowledge. The church is very important since it is where members of the body of Christ are perfected.
(Eph 4:11) He is the one who gave these gifts to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. (12) Their responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church, the body of Christ, (13) until we come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be mature and full grown in the Lord, measuring up to the full stature of Christ.
What is the socioeconomic significance of the local church in your community or the churches found in your city?
Support and foundation for the Truth
The local church is the primary place where the Word is taught and people’s lives are changed and they are freed from the sinful nature inherent in man.
(Col 1:13) For he has rescued us from the one who rules in the kingdom of darkness, and he has brought us into the Kingdom of his dear Son.
Not only are God’s children rescued from the kingdom of darkness, they also walk in the wisdom and counsel of the Lord. Because they believe right they act right and live in love and harmony with the people around them. Sin is to live out of context with the blueprint of one’s design; to behave out of tune with God’s original harmony Rom 3:23 (Mirror Study Bible).
Cities fight churches yet the church reduces crime in communities and cities. Crime costs a community more than the tax exemption to the church. The church contributes to preventing crime through discipleship whereby individuals and their families are taught the truth and the truth sets them free from living loose moral lives because of the new nature they carry inside them.
Stability and morals
Churches bring morals to the community through teaching of the Word. People in Church are trained in parenting, leadership, skills development, healthy family life and poverty alleviation. People who are taught in church become good examples in societies they live in through the teaching from the Scriptures.
The light of the community
Churches are the foundation of every community and they are the light of the community that they are established in. God’s message is shared through the church to the people who are residents of local communities and cities. It is vital to put value on the church as an individual since Words of Life are received through the church.
Action Plan: Make yourself useful to the local church since serving the Church means serving the most valuable people, the Body of the Lord Jesus Christ.
